Joaquin Caparros takes charge of training after taking over as Sevilla’s caretaker manager following the sacking of Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta.

Sevilla sporting director Victor Orta has admitted the decision to hire Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta as head coach last summer was a mistake, with the club later sacking him and appointing 69-year-old Joaquin Caparros on an interim basis until the end of the season.
Sevilla have sacked Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta after four consecutive defeats. Sevilla’s currently 14th in La Liga after สมัคร UFABET วันนี้ รับเครดิตฟรีสำหรับสมาชิกใหม่ collecting 36 points from 31 games, seven points above the relegation zone, with Caparros set to take charge until the end of the season. It will be the third time he has taken on the role, having played in 2018 and 2019.
“We’ve had many coaches since (Julen) Lopetegui came in. We thought Garcia Pimienta was a long-term coach, but we’ve lost four games in a row. It was a mistake, because if you hire a coach for 11 months and he’s been with us for 10 months, that’s a mistake. We decided to fire him and hire Caparros. Hopefully we won’t have to fire another coach in the next 15 or 20 years,” Orta said.
Orta also explained that the previous extension of his contract with Pimienta was just a way to help the coach, saying: ‘In football, results are important. There are only a few Sevilla who have survived four consecutive defeats. To insist on one mistake is to make two mistakes.’
‘As a club, supporting the trainer is just one way to help and now we have to do the same with Caparros. Doing this at times is a show of maturity.’
For Orta, he is also under pressure from his job, despite working under Spain’s lowest salary cap and with a budget halved.
‘I work according to the targets set by the club. We had some bad luck with the signings in the winter transfer market. We wanted to get back to form and we reduced the salary, which was 50 per cent. I was frustrated that we almost got to Europe, but I think overall we have to accept the mistakes. However, I followed the guidelines set by the board to try to improve myself. ‘
