Manchester United ready to pounce for Maignan

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing AC Milan’s Mike Maignan as a potential replacement for struggling Andre Onana.

Onana was a brilliant piece of business for Inter Milan, who signed the Cameroon international on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and sold him the following year to Old Trafford for €50m plus bonuses.

However, he has fail to live up to expectations at Manchester United and was recently drop from the squad by Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim for the latest game against Newcastle.

This time, their target is Milan’s Maignan, whose contract talks have been severely delay.

The France international turns 30 in July and his current contract expires in June 2026, so a summer sale is likely if an agreement is not reach soon.

He was bought from Lille for just €16.4m in 2021 and has been inconsistent this season, with an injury record that has been surprisingly poor.

Any sale would be worth around €40m, with Chelsea and Aston Villa also interested.

His form this season has not been up to his usual standards with Maignan keeping 12 clean sheets in all competitions this season while last term, he had kept 15 clean-sheets.

United are monitoring multiple names and it will be intriguing to see who they ultimately land. The transfer budget is expect to decide who will be Onana’s eventual successor.
